In a nearly 40-minute interview on Howie Carr's show, Read and her defense attorney Alan Jackson took turns discussing the possibilities for the future.
Jackson said that “nothing” was said in terms of the possibility of filing a civil lawsuit. Read’s legal team has been meeting to discuss whether to file a lawsuit in state or federal courts and how to overcome “qualified immunity,” which protects DA’s offices and other state agencies from being prosecuted.
“The question is whether we have a legal standard that we can really prosecute civil cases against them,” Jackson said. “We are considering all options.”
In June, a jury read out the second-degree murder charges, murder charges in the affected operation and left the crash site to cause death. She was convicted for a misdemeanor and received one year of probation.
Prosecutors argued that Reid was drunk and angry when he intentionally placed the SUV on January 29, 2022, Boston Policeman John O'Keefe.
In a radio interview, Reid said she lost a job she cherished during the four-year prosecution process and had to sell her home to pay for a second trial and now lives with her parents. She still hasn't returned from DA's office.
Reid said that even if she could return to her old job, it wasn't her way forward.
“I have other things to do when it comes to articulating what I’ve seen in the past four years,” she said.
“I want to have a book there,” Red said. “There is a lot to say. There is a lot to fight against.”
As for TV, Reid said when news broke Wednesday, actor and director Elizabeth Banks will paint an announcement about a crime legal legend in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series, which she will read ending with acquittal.
“I have nothing to do with that,” Red said. “It's not in any way I'm authorized.”
Jackson said Red's story is a story worth telling, but needs to be done accurately and meaningfully.
“This is Karen Read's story,” Jackson said. “To make up, to fill the gaps they want to fill and get poetic permission, it's not a Hollywood story.”
“It's a pity that she's never got consulted or even contacted,” Jackson added.
As for legal compensation, Carl might read how much he might read when he wants to know.
“Her reputation was dragged into the mud due to these allegations,” Jackson said. “How much is that?”
