  • United Airlines pilot announced Mayday shortly after leaving Washington Dulles International Airport last week

  • A joint spokesperson said all passengers and crew members

The pilot declared “Mayday” pilot shortly after taking off last week.

On Friday, July 25, United Flight 108 left Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Virginia. The planes encountered in Munich operate 787 Boeings, carrying 219 passengers and 11 crew members.

However, when the plane rose to 10,000 feet, the pilot noticed a problem.

“Failure, engine failure, left engine, joint 108,” the pilot told the air traffic controller in a recording you can see on YouTube. “Announce an emergency.”

They added on a 5,000-foot flight: “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday.”

Given the clear airspace, the air traffic controller immediately instructed the pilot to turn right and return to the airport. However, when the plane turned to land, the pilot determined that the plane was too heavy because it was fuel for transatlantic flights. It forces them to stay in the air until they are cleaned up to adjust the weight of the passenger jet.

After closing the second cycle around the airport and dumping the necessary fuel, the crew was able to land in the IAD for more than 30 minutes in the air. All passengers and crew members were safely off

A Washington Dulles spokesman told people that the plane landed safely, inspected by firefighters and rescue personnel from the airport authorities, and then dragged to the gate.

According to the airline, the plane experienced a “mechanical problem”.

“The 108 roundtrip flight to Munich will be used to solve the mechanical problems,” a spokesperson shared in a statement. “The aircraft landed safely and all passengers landed normally at the door.”

They added that the flight was cancelled and the carrier made alternative arrangements for the travelers.

In early July, a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) was forced to turn around after one of its engines appeared to explode after taking off. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), it “landed safely” on Friday, July 18.

In video captured by YouTube channel LA Flights, the flames appear in the aircraft's left engine.

“Short after departure, Delta Flight 446 returned to Los Angeles shortly after issue with the left engine of the plane. As nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and crew, the pilot followed the procedure and returned safely to the gate,” a Delta spokesman shared in a statement with the people.

Delta representatives added all 226 passengers, landed normally, and were placed on new aircraft.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed it will investigate the Los Angeles incident.
