Two teams with the best record scored best in the National League when the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs collided on the American Family Field in Milwaukee on Monday. Both the Winemakers and the Cubs were 62-43 and tied with a lead. Only the Blue Jays (63-43) have better records in all baseballs. After this week’s series, the competitors will have only one series left, with five games at Wrigley Stadium in August.
Monday's pitching showdown included two NL All-Stars: Jacob Misiorowski (4-1, 2.45 ERA) against Chicago left-hander Matthew Boyd (11-3, 2.20). The 23-year-old Misiorowski has been a sensation in his short major league career so far, reaching 100 mph regularly, hitting 40 batsmen in 29 innings, and being drafted as an All-Star after just five career starts. On his last outing, he beat seven against the Mariners, with only 3-inch no-point walks one inning, but the brewers ended up losing 1-0. Monday's game will be his first game against Chicago.
Meanwhile, Boyd, 34, is in the best season of his career. His 11 wins have been twice higher than his previous career, two times he did when he was with the Tigers on 2018 and 19. His 2.20 ERA and 1.01 WHIP are the lowest of any season he has ever been a starter.
Boyd enters Monday's game. He was not allowed to run in his last three games, hitting 21 shots in 20 innings. Milwaukee hasn't seen Boyd again since April 2023, when he gave up only two runs while hitting eight games in five innings.
While the Cubs Winemakers' Showdown is a big attraction on Monday's sports landscape, other options include 15 MLB slates and two WNBA cards.

time: 9:40 pm | Place: San Diego | television: MLB Network
Sportsline selection-Model: Mets +1.5 -195
The NL's two playoff hopes kicked off a three-game series, when Hotthot's New York Mets and San Diego Padres Square in Petco Park. The Mets (62-44) won seven consecutive wins and led the NL with 1.5 games in the Phillies game. Meanwhile, Padres (57-49) ranked second in the NL West, four games behind the Dodgers. Frankie Montas (3-1, 4.62) was scheduled to bring mounds to New York, while Dylan Cease (3-10, 4.59) received a call from San Diego. Montas won each of his last four games, and the ceasefire lost his last four decisions. Sportsline projection model says the Mets have a 67.0% chance of coverage, which is greater than the consensus odds of 66.1%, and gives New York +1.5 (-195) C-level.

Freedom of wings
time: 8 pm | Place: Arlington, Texas | television: ESPN
SportsLine Expert Draft: Liberty -8.5 (Calvin Wetzel and Aaron Barzilai)
One of the best teams in the WNBA faced one of the worst when defending champions New York Liberals visited the Dallas Wing. Freedom (17-7) has the second best record in the league, while Paige Bueckers and Wings (7-19) are the second worst. However, in two league MVPs against Sparks on Saturday, New York will have no star Breanna Stewart on Monday. Stewart averaged 18.3 points per game (seventh in the league), with 6.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. But Wetzel and Barzilai believe that sports betting has overreacted to Stewart's absence. “With Jonquel Jones, this team still has enough firepower, depth, rebounds and defense,” they said. “With a far-reaching Dallas team, which is in the second half of back-to-back games, that should be enough to cover the line – even on the road.”
