Nashville, Tenn. – Titans quarterback Cam Ward's trash talk provided much-needed spark for the entire team, especially the offense. Trash talk became even worse when Ward got into a melee with defensive winger Jeffery Simmons on Monday.

Ward first told the media about the incident on Wednesday. His answer to his knowledge of the incident is very interesting, but it is.

“Jeff is strong,” Ward said. “It's fun, and I think it's what we need. We love competing with me and Jeff, and I'm so glad to have that man as my teammate.”

The skirmish comes after Ward threw a touchdown at Calvin Ridley at the end of his practice and celebrated it. The rookie quarterback paused, pushed Simmons a little, and then celebrated trademark “zombies” in front of him. Simmons responded by pushing Ward's mask with both hands, and the offensive line ran towards Ward's defense.

Ward and Simmons have an ongoing competition, including a post-game trash talk. Simmons told Ward that it was their first meeting and then they went to the field training camp.

“I got here, he was the first one I was ready to talk to S,” Ward said. “He was the first one I practiced every day.”

Titans coach Brian Callahan said he was not bothered by the incident and did not think it was necessary to throw away any player, especially with three snapshots on the day. Callahan admitted that touching the quarterback was wrong. But he also said: “If the quarterback is willing to fight like this into the competition, that's him.”

Simmons tried to get everything rested while talking to the media on Tuesday.

“It's training camp, grumpy,” Simmons said. “I respect our offense because of the return of the quarterback. At the end of the day, our family and moved from it.”
