Elusive serial killer Dexter Morgan returns to the new Showtime series “Dexter: New Blood.”

According to multiple reports, Paramount cuts “Dexter: Original Sin” before Season 2, despite previous renewal announcements.

The series' protagonist Michael C. Hall plays Dexter Morgan, a forensic dissemination analyst who turns alert to killers who prey on other murderers who escape the criminal justice system.

Despite an previously announced Season 2 renewal for April, the streaming service has weakened the prequel series, according to Variety and Entertainment Weekly.

Dexter Moonlit is a mass murderer in the original 2006-13 “Dexter” series. The show lasted for eight seasons and gave birth to the season of “Agility: New Blood” (2021-22), “Dexter: Primitive Sin” (2024), and “Dexter: Recultiction” (2025).

Both media reported, “Open the writer's room for potential season 2 of “Dexter: Resurrection.” The sequel series performed well on Paramount+ Premium and Showtime, with the premiere attracting 3.1 million viewers during the opening weekend and grew to 4.4 million seven days later.

USA Today contacted Paramount and Showtime on Wednesday, August 27 and aired the show, but has not received a response.
