How to maintain your air conditioner in the summer
As the temperature heats up, Fox 7 Austin has gone through with professionals to check how to keep air conditioning this summer.

- DTE Energy recommends setting the thermostat to 78 degrees and saving 1% to 3% per degree of energy bill when not present.
- Regular AC maintenance involves monthly filter changes and ensures airflow is removed around the outdoor unit.
With temperatures expected from the mid-week to the mid-90s, Michigan may wonder how to keep homes cool without paying electricity bills.
The U.S. Department of Energy recommends keeping indoor temperature comfortable at levels that provide humidity control.
“By simply returning the thermostat to 7 to 10 degrees of heating and cooling, you can save up to 10% of heating and cooling every day. Eight hours a day saves more than the normal environment than in buildings in more severe climates,” Doe said.
Residents should aim to keep the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures at a lower probability to save the most money, federal agencies say.
DTE recommends Michigan's thermostat set its thermostat to 78 degrees and raise it several degrees when you are not back home.

What thermostat should you set up in the summer?
In a statement to Free Media last year, DTE Energy advised customers to set their thermostat to 78 degrees and raise it several degrees when they are not at home.
DTE says every degree you improve can save 1% to 3% on energy costs.
How to stay cool in summer
To help keep calm, reduce energy use and maximize energy efficiency during hot weather, DTE Energy provides the following tips:
- Cooking meals with a microwave, crockpot, or outdoor grill instead of in the oven will add extra heat to your home, especially on afternoons when outdoor temperatures peak. If you have to cook in the kitchen, turn on the exhaust fan to move the hot air outside.
- Close the blinds and curtains on the windows facing the sun to block the sun's light and avoid unnecessary heat.
- Delay laundry, wash dishes or run the dishwasher until the outdoor temperature is somewhat cooler in the evening.
- Let your dishes air-dry in the dishwasher instead of using the heated drying feature, which leaks heat to the kitchen, thereby increasing indoor temperature and humidity levels.
- At cooler temperatures, faster than normal temperatures. Hot water The damp humid air fills your bathroom, which will cause your air conditioner to work harder to cool the room.
What should I do to maintain the air conditioner?
- Replace or clean the air filter monthly.
- Keep leaves, shrubs and other debris at least 18 inches away from the outdoor unit to avoid blocking airflow. Do not cover the condenser coil outside to make your home look more beautiful.
- If you have outdoor drainage, keep it clear and not blocked.
