Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter, Miami Gardens, Florida – Dolphin cornerback Artie Burns tore his ACL apart on his first day in training camp and is expected to miss the entire 2025 season.
An MRI confirmed something the dolphin’s medical staff worried about Thursday after being injured shortly after practicing Wednesday. Burns tangled with teammates during training and lashed out at the helmet for frustration.
Later I saw him leave the crutch.

Burns signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins in the offseason after spending the past three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He has never been a full-time starter since 2017, but has the opportunity to compete for a starting job in Miami – now, already thin positions are more common.
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that despite the team’s confidence in the current cornerback group, it will always improve.
“If your young man is in a position where he is developing and you are developing it and you are confident in it, you are confident in front of people who don’t see it,” he said. “So we have confidence in this group. That being said, not closing for anything. We talk about multiple players every day, but we are also very excited about some people who have a lot of proof and have a lot of proof and know that and are excited about opportunities.”
The Dolphins signed experienced cornerback Cornell Armstrong a day after Burns was injured – the Dolphins originally selected players in the sixth round of the 2018 draft. Last season, Armstrong was not on the NFL roster and spent the 2023 season on the 2023 Las Vegas Raiders practice lineup.
