Sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Sunday that right-handed Seth Lugo and the Kansas City Royals are completing multi-year contracts.
Lugo, 35, is considered one of the best trade candidates this deadline and one of the highest free agent weapons this winter.
Despite the lower-average fastball speed, Lugo's era has had an era rate of 3.60 or less over the past five seasons. The right-handed's ability to tie and limit the runner's hard contact ability, partly because of his nine different courts, which gives him the ability to flexibly adjust in-game – this luxury is shared only by a handful of MLB launchers.
Lugo is 7-5 with an ERA of 2.95, with 99 strikeouts in 113 innings.
ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan contributed to the report.
