Seattle and San Jose (July 19, 2025)

The San Jose earthquake and Seattle Rookers were drawing the game at the MLS game Wednesday.

And I'm not happy about it.

Teams planning to meet in Seattle on Saturday all think they could have done better.

The earthquake (7-8-8, 29 points) was 2-2 from Dallas Football Club, San Jose's Josef Martinez scored a tie goal in the 86th minute, second only to visitors to lead one minute. Martinez also assisted with Ian Harkes' first half goal.

“It's sloppy at the end of both halves,” said earthquake coach Bruce Arena.

“The first goal they scored, we could have done better in that game. …The second goal they scored, we had three players who just fell asleep and did a really bad job. I gave our guys a lot of honors to give this game an opponent. In one game, we were a little better, maybe we won a few goals.”

Despite two goals and an assist from Albert Rusnak, Soundtrack (9-6-7, 34 points) wasted a three-goal lead with a 3-3 draw.

In the second straight game, the Sounders led 3-0 and could only give a pair of penalty kicks in the second half.

“I'm even more frustrated with our team and our ability to end the game, especially when I'm at home,” Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer said. “That score should have ended.”

The Rapids tied the score in the 75th minute as backup Darren Yapi dribbled on Cristian Roldan and Jackson Ragen, both on yellow cards and then shot the shot to the bottom left corner of the net.

“In the season, there’s always a little bit to calm down,” Rordan said. “Whether it’s alone or as a team. We’re seeing it in the second half after acknowledging PKS, and that’s something we can solve. It’s not that we’re rejecting or anything else.”

Ragen will be suspended for yellow card accumulation, missing Saturday’s game, while guard Nouhou Tolo will be the last in his two-game suspension as he threw the ball into the Kansas City stands.

Rusnak reached a tie goal in the 80th minute of his outstanding first half as the host on March 29 with a 1-1 score.
