Holger Rune won his campaign in the ATP 1000 Championship in Cincinnati, when he beat Russia's Rome Safiullin 7-5, 7-6.
Danish tennis star Holger Rune took a hard hit in his first game against Roman Safiullin in his first game at the ATP Masters 1000 Championship, when the Russian hit the Danes in the face.
Safiullin ended a game with his hard serve at the start of the game, and Russia then approached Holger Rune to apologize.
However, the runes were restored and the seventh seed Dann played the third round with a 7-5, 7-6 victory.
Dane was seeded in the first round and was a favorite against Safiullin, who didn't have 80 in the world rankings.
Last year, Dane won two games between two players.
But Safiullin showed a lot of hope in the opening stage of Saturday's game, having a chance to lead 4-1 before the first set after destroying Rune's serve, but Dane immediately backed back and reduced the deficit to 2-3.
Hoger Rune then broke Safiullin again 4-4, but then failed to exploit two fixed points as Russia restored equality.
However, Safiullin couldn't stop Rune from breaking the serve again, and Dane then used the forehand winner to use his third fixed point to win the first set.
In the second set, both players performed well in holding serves and therefore had to be decided in the tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Holger Rune won the forehand title with a score of 5-5, and Dane then converted his first match point to the ending match.
Holger Rune recorded his best results when he reached the semifinals at the Cincinnati Open last year. In the third round, Holger Rune will meet with Corentin Moutet, a man from the United States or France.
