Evansville, Indiana (WFIE) – While temporary temperatures have been high this summer, many people in Evansville also have high energy costs.
Centerpoint Energy, the city's only provider, said it was normal for exchange rates to rise during the peak of summer peaks, but some customers said it was like they could not see before.
A group called “Direct Action against Centerpoint Energy” in front of the Centerpoint building is planned to hold a protest for downtown Evansville.
Many protesters say their bills are as high as hundreds of dollars than usual, and one bill is as high as $1,000 or more.
We spoke with Centerpoint officials this afternoon to see how they worked with it.
“We know people care about their bills. Customers will change based on the impact of their personal consumption,” said Mike Roeder, senior vice president of external affairs. “We want to provide them with energy efficiency options by providing payment methods and try to work with customers as transparently as possible in the investments we make today and in the future of reliability and try to be as transparent as possible.”
14 News also spoke with Mayor Stephanie Terry yesterday about the increase.
