Bengaluru: Prajwal Revanna, a grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, sentenced to life imprisonment in a special court in Bangalore on Saturday.Revanna also fined Rs 1 million. Earlier in the day, Revanna collapsed in court, crying uncontrollably and begging for less punishment.“Convicted of rape, sexual harassment, voyeurism”Revanna was convicted on Friday for raping a 47-year-old domestic worker. Revanna was found guilty of rape, sexual harassment, voyeurism, evidence under the Information Technology Act and crime. Judge Santosh Gajanana Bhat announced the verdict within eight weeks of the trial, nearly 14 months after Revanna's arrest.

“Flying to Germany in 2024”Revanna left Germany shortly after 2024, with hundreds of drives allegedly circulating in its constituency. He returned to India after the election and was arrested at Bangalore Airport on May 31. The woman at the centre of this case filed a police complaint after she was rescued from a farmhouse near Mysoru in April. She claimed she was kidnapped by Revanna's family to stop her from pursuing the charges. A special investigation team of 40 members submitted a five-volume report divided into 1,800 pages. According to the prosecution, 26 witnesses were cross-examined and 180 documents were reviewed at 38 hearings. Three-term Congressman Revanna is still facing trials in three other cases, which is caused by the same investigation.
