In the first few hours of the new school year, the Philadelphia Teachers Federation and the Philadelphia School District reached a tentative three-year contract agreement.
Union leaders called it a historic victory.
“PFT is very excited that we have been able to reach a tentative agreement with the Philadelphia School District on the three-year agreement to ensure labor and peace in schools and provide them with efforts and ability to bring peace to them in the Philadelphia School District,” said in a joint statement with Arthur G. Steinberg, president of the district PFT.
Sheriff Tony B. Watlington, Ed.D. “Fifty years of research have shown us – over time, highly qualified, supported and stable teachers are the first factor in accelerating student achievement, and as we begin the new school year, this contract allows us to continue working with PFT and further implement our annual strategic plan for FI, which has accelerated our stability and we can accelerate our efforts in the country.”
Additional details about the tentative agreement are expected in the coming days.
The teacher's current contract is scheduled to expire on August 31.
If there were no new deals, they had planned to leave their jobs after Labor Day.
The Philadelphia Teachers Federation represents approximately 14,000 teachers.
