Philadelphia put Alec Bohm on IL, fractured ribs, recall Wilson

  • by admin

Philadelphia – Although Alec Bohm initially seemed to avoid the fear of injury when he was hit in San Diego last weekend, the Phillies have now placed the Third Baseman on a 10-day injury list with a fractured left rib.

IL placement comes a day after Bohm lost 6-5 to the Angels on Friday night. He hit Yu Darvish on the left side at 92 mph in the second inning on July 12 and quit the game two innings. He sat out the next day – the last game before the All-Stars – the team called it a left rib contusion, but Bohm rejoined the roster for Friday's second half opener.

“He still felt the rib stuff in the last game last night,” manager Rob Thomson said before Saturday's game. “He came in today and still felt it, so he was going to see a doctor.”

Further tests revealed the extent of the damage. It is unclear how long the Phillies expect not to have Bohm.

Phils recalled utility Weston Wilson from Triple-A to occupy Bohm's position in the active roster.

Otto Kemp took Bohm at third base on Saturday, Edmundo Sosa was second in Bryson Stott, while Angels started left-handed at Yusei Kikuchi. With Kemp – Kemp starts in the left field against Southpaws – starting from third place, Thomson crosses with Brandon Marsh on Saturday's left Max Kepler.

Wilson was scratched in the lineup in Lehigh Valley on Saturday night and he might return to the left-field row with Kepler. Wilson was selected on June 19 after a slow start at Phils on June 19 and scored .276/.396/.447 (.843 OPS) in 19 games after being selected on June 19.

“It started a little slow, but he's been good since then,” Thomson said of Wilson's time with the Lehigh Valley. “He's always mixed up.”

Kemp may also remain in the combination in the left field, while SOSA can be third, although Sosa may continue to start at second base any time when Phillies faces the left hand.

As for Righties, Phils can start Stott in second, Kemp is in third, and Kepler is on the left-or they can be in second, Sosa is in third, and Kemp is on the left. In the club's final first half, Kemp started from Kepler's left against right-hander Nick Pivetta – Kepler wasn't dealing with the right guy for the first time in the year.

“I'll probably be piecemeal between Stott, Sousa and Kemp,” Thomson said. “We have some choices.”
