Oriole – Phyllis series preview: A competitor wants to get rid of one too

  • by admin

The Orioles traded a bunch of players in the galaxy of 2025 contenders and will gather with some former teammates for the rest of the season. The Phillies on the other end stretched out the tendrils and obtained several people by the deadline. They didn't trade each other, not this year, and the Orioles traded their pre-tickets from the 2024 deal. Therefore, none of these parties will happen in the next few days.

One player is still hovering in the 2024 deal between these teams. Philadelphia's Seth Johnson threw out of the bullpen. He was a start prospect when the Oriole traded him to Philadelphia, so his value had fallen. Two recent bad outings have raised Johnson's small sample era from about 3 times to over 5 years old. These are nine games. Perhaps it is not worth continuing to regret for O's surrender to obtain Gregory Soto's surrender.

As for the Phillies' overall: They're trying to win the NL East battle with the Mets. After yesterday, when the Phillies won and the Mets lost, the Phillies led the half-time game. The series against Orioles represents the game they should win. The Mets will play the Guardian and if they want to regain the top spot as soon as possible, then the team they should beat.

The Orioles have performed well this season. Their 6-4 record against Al East leading the Blue Jays is particularly outstanding. But in most cases, the Orioles are not good for the game of excellent teams, with a record above the clubs above 29-37. This is one of the reasons why they entered the standings. The Oriole game with the Cubs recently showed us more reasons.

The offense is not what carries this Phillies. Compared to other playoff contenders in the league, their running output is comparable to pedestrians, with 4.67 runs per game. This is better than the Orioles (4.36 R/g) and Philadelphia, the Mets (4.39 r/g), but it pales compared to teams like the Dodgers (5.14 r/g) and the Cubs (5.21 r/g). The strength of this team lies in pitching, especially rotation.

What do you think it would be like to have pitchers in three eras on a team in 2025? This is what Philadelphia has developed. Zack Wheeler, Cristopher Sánchez and Ranger Suárez are achieving good things. In terms of the Orioles' bright side, only one of these three guys pitched in the next few games.

Game 1: Monday, 6:45 ET

  • BAL Starter: Cade Povich -13 G, 5.15 ERA, 4.12 FIP, 1.500 WHIP
  • PHI First Post: Jesús Luzardo -22 g, 4.31 ERA, 2.98 FIP, 1.372 WHIP

Povich is being activated from the injured list to get this off. His last game with the Orioles was June 15, after which he landed at Illinois State University with a hip injury. The past two months are very important for Povich, 25, who is now close to a full-season major league inning and has achieved exciting results. This year is better for him than last year: He improved strikeout rates and slightly lowered his walking rates.

Even so, the batsman hit .287 in Povich. That's a bad number. If he doesn't even look like he's behind the major league rotation at the end of the season, he should be along the depth map after any plans that the Orioles plan to enter 2026.

After an offseason deal with the Marlins, Luzardo joined the Phillies. They gave up on two players with direct consequences, hoping he hoped he would return to success in 2022 and 2023. Strike-up and walking rates are as good as ever, but Luzardo is hurt by horrible luck in batting (.348 Babip (.348 Babip) vs. .306's career). The Phillies, who has one of the league's worst defenses in the outfield, probably didn't help him.

Match 2: Tuesday, 6:45 ET

  • BAL Starter: Dean Kremer -22 g, 4.27 ERA, 4.04 FIP, 1.266 WHIP
  • PHI first launch: Taikou Walker-23 g, 3.82 ERA, 5.21 FIP, 1.356 whip

Kremer was one of the bad orioles in April and has been in improvement since then. On April 27, Kremer gave up five runs in 5.2 innings and saw his era jump to 7.04. Since then, he has rolled to 3.39 ERA in 16 games, averaging almost 6 innings per game. If he had ever posted a whole season like this, my reaction to the era when he ended up being the #3 Orioles' starter might not have been that bad – or now like he's almost a #1 starter.

Can Kremer continue to move forward until the end of the season? This is one of the problems facing the Orioles as they carry it to a stock inventory in 2026. He hit a tough situation in his final few games, giving up eight runs in total in 11 innings and allowing three home runs.

Walker is opposite to the previous starter Luzardo, because his era is acceptable but ugly. Most of the time, pitchers with 6.9 K/9, 3.1 BB/9 and 1.7 HR/9 can't keep it together and do a good job. Walker embossed the entire pitch throughout June, after which he rejoined the rotation and picked up where he left: mostly good, but always did enough to make you think he was on the cliff of disaster.

Game 3: Wednesday, 12:35 ET

  • BAL Starter: Trevor Rogers -9 G, 1.44 ERA, 2.60 FIP, 0.746 WHIP
  • PHI First Post: Ranger Suárez -16 G, 2.68 ERA, 3.01 FIP, 1.132 WHIP

I always wonder if a game that looks like a pitcher duel will end up like this.

In Rogers' case, I'd love to know if he could maintain this revival. He hasn't had more than three games in any of his season, and he's allowed only nine runs once. His happens to be quite good in a strong Cubs lineup in eight innings, and although sadly Rodgers lost as the Orioles offense also dominated that game, even though only four hits and zero walks were allowed.

**

Orioles have 50 games left in the season. This is the next three of 50. What are the wins you think are satisfied with the remaining months of the season? At this moment, I think it would be great if they showed up at a 26-24 rate, at least after the trade deadline. I don't have much hope that they start with this series.
