A new Covid-19 variant is climbing in the U.S., becoming the third most common pressure in the summer.
The XFG variant XFG, first detected in Southeast Asia in January, is known as “Stratus”, but accounts for 0% of U.S. cases in May-May. By late June, it was estimated that it accounted for 14%.
The World Health Organization assessed the additional public health risks posed by the variant as “low” in a report in late June, and assessed the additional public health risks of XFG in a report in late June, which also recommended that the currently approved Covid-19 vaccine “is expected to be effective and effective against this adaptive and severe disease.”
Here is what we know about XFG:
What is the covid variant XFG?
XFG is a combination of COVID-19 variants F.7 and LP.8.1.2, the second most prominent strain in the United States.
Mutations in this variant may enhance XFG's ability to evade immune responses, but its binding behavior suggests that Subhash Verma, professor of microbiology and immunology at the University of Nevada, is highly contagious than other dominant variants.
“There is no clear evidence that XFG can lead to more severe disease or significantly different symptoms from the early Omicron variant,” Verma said. “It is important that this variant has no immediate public health problems.”
How common is XFG?
Although XFG has been growing and spreading around the world, it has not yet become a major source of infection in the United States.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has moved to a longer time frame for co-tracking, due to lower state reports. According to the latest data from the two-week period ending June 21, XFG accounts for 14% of U.S. cases, making it the third largest strain of NB.1.8.1 (43%) and LP.8.1 (31%).
In the weeks leading up to the last report, XFG's prominence in the United States increased significantly, accounting for 0% of March until it reached 2% in April, 6% in late May, 11% in early June, and 14% in late June.
He also tracked growth on global XFG in June, with the June report including data from 38 countries showing that XFG accounted for only 7.4% of positive tests in the first week of May, but last 22.7%.
USA Today has contacted the CDC for more information on the spread of Covid-19 variants in July and August.
What are the symptoms of XFG?
Verma said there is no evidence that XFG causes any different symptoms of other variants. But, according to social media posts and news reports, hoarse croaking is associated with stress anecdotes.
