Women's second round of action at the U.S. Open continued at the US Open on Thursday, August 28 at the US Open.

It was a relatively simple U.S. Open for former world number one Naomi Osaka, who defeated Belgium's Minnen 6-3, 6-4, secured his position in the second round.

The four-time Grand Slam champion is in a clear revival in 2025, and has won her first title since becoming the mother of Saint Marlo and reaching the Montreal WTA 1000 final, where she dropped to Victoria Mboko in three sets.

Hailey Baptiste is at different moments in her career, even if it may be on a similar trajectory.

The 23-year-old American hopes to improve her best results professionally in her master after failing to surpass the qualifiers last year. She had to work hard to beat 11-time Grand Slam doubles champion Katerina Siniakova 7-5, 6-3, her first American open first victory.

Osaka and Baptiste met twice in their careers. Both competitions were played in Osaka, but both were walking in the park, winning the races in January 6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-2 in Auckland and 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-4 in Miami in March.

Americans show she can push for two-time U.S. Open Championships, but I can't see that change. Osaka will endure it, but she will be under pressure again.

Coco Goff and Donna Vikki's odds

Perhaps we should know that Coco Gauff's debut was not an easy debut since winning the French Open, reaching the U.S. Open with a record of 4-4. Her 6-4, 6-7 (2), 7-5 defeat of Ajla Tomljanovic barely avoided the second consecutive first-round Grand Slam elimination.

It wasn't an easy debut either for Vekic. She won a second round ticket with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, which featured 13 times. Vekic is a quarterfinalist in 2019, knowing how it feels to win in New York, but she will surely face resistance to her family favorite.

For Gauff, reaching the world number one for the first time, if something is unrealistic, they need to win the championship and see Aryna Sabalenka lose before the quarter.

It was first and foremost a win against a player who actually beat her when he met at the hard court of the Australian United Cup last time. In New York, it would be a different story, but I don't think I'm as comfortable as most people.

Select: Vekic +5.5 and 19.5 matches (via DraftKings +114)
