“I'm pretty sure everyone will want to come back,” Chada said. “It all depends on the script, if the original actor likes it. I'm working very hard to make sure every character I bring back has a decent arc and scene.”
Chadha co-wrote the 2003 film with Guljit Bindra and her husband Paul Mayeda Berges and may repeat the process of the sequel. She told her, “I want Paul who wrote some really interesting lines with Paul.” Deadline.
The director said she has been thinking about making a sequel or a follow-up TV series for years. “I don't want to do anything because I don't have a story,” Chada said. “And then I came up with a great story, really cool story. So now I'm inspired. Literally, I came up with it about a month ago. It was my very clear desire. It's going to bring the character back soon. Women's football is more competitive, more competitive, more exciting than ever, and it's even more honorable than ever.
Chada said Deadline Her goal is to write and shoot the sequel in 2027 release date, which will be commemorated with the 25th anniversary Like Beckham Premiere in the UK in 2002. The director was inspired by her recent friendship Emma Hayes, head coach of the American Women's National Football Team. “Her insight into the world of football is priceless,” Chadal noted.
The filmmaker added that no one was interested in a movie about women playing football at first, but the recent popularity of professional women’s football has brought people back to the focus on sequels. She said Bend like Beckham “It’s about lifting girls and saying, ‘You can do, even if society determines what you can and can’t do, you can do everything you want,’ even if we have women and women’s football around the world, that message is still important.”
She continued: “This movie is part of the legacy and I feel like I can do more. That's what I'm writing about, that's my focus. Of course, it's going to be difficult, but it's also very happy. We also hope we can bring back the same joy and put women and girls on the map like we did 23 years ago.”
