Topeka, Kansas (WIBW) – The man accused of kidnapping Topeka's children is accused of murdering two Topeka people.

On July 23, 2025, Barnshaw was formally charged with the following crimes:
- First Degree Murder (Prevention) – Felony of Crime
- First Degree Murder (Prevention) – Felony of Crime
- Aggravated burglary of a residence – 4th degree felony
- Aggravates the crime of endangering children
- Kidnapping; flight or any crime level 35555555555555555555555
Barnshaw's Shawnee County case is set at $10 million.

The Topeka Police Department (TPD) responded to the 500 block of NE Wabash Ave. Welfare checks were made at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, so officials had two dead at home. The investigation began after the discovery of two bodies.
The kidnapping of children was found during the investigation and an amber alarm was issued.
Officials with the Marton Police Department, Illinois (MPD) found the missing child after a traffic stop near Charleston, Illinois on Tuesday. The child was not hurt and returned to his father's care.
After a traffic stop, Barnshaw was arrested and detained at Coles County Jail. MPD arrested him on Tuesday for aggravated allegations of kidnapping and illegal use of weapons.
