In our trial series, TZR editors and writers put the most buzzing new beauty products into testing and shared their honest reviews. This week, beauty writer Ama Kwarteng is testing the Buzzy Pattern Beauty Body Collection.
I attach great importance to body care. I learned from mom that what you use on your body is as important as what you use on your face, so my shower routine always includes a range of gentle exfoliators, silk shower gel and super moster lotion. While I do have favorites to try, I love testing new products and am willing to discover something that surprises me. So when I heard that Mode Beauty was launching a body series, I immediately knew I had to give it a try. I have been a fan of the brand founded by Tracee Ellis Ross since its launch in 2019 and their hair care products have never disappointed me. Naturally, I would love to know if the same quality translates into body care.
The hydration-based production line includes five products: a smooth and dry exfoliating body scrub, aloe-infused moisturizing shower gel, a lightweight nourishing body oil, a moisturizing body lotion and plump moisturizing body cream. Each project also features the brand’s signature Midnite amber scent – a mixture of amber, musk and bergamot with a delicate citrus and floral scent.
As you can imagine, Pattern Beauty’s first release beyond hair care is one of the most anticipated beauty releases of the year. I tried each new product to see if they are really worth adding to your shower program. Continue reading my honest thoughts.

formula
The patterned body surrounds moisturizing, plumping and smoothing to make the skin glow and soft. In a dry peeling body scrub, you will find Dead Sea and Epsom salts along with three oils (coconut, sweet almonds and abyssinia seeds) to exfoliate and soften the skin. A moisturizing shower gel infused with aloe and olive oil provides a dose of hydration. Bonus oils are made of a mixture of seven oils and a vitamin E formula to soothe and provide antioxidant protection. Jojo oil, shea butter and aloe are key ingredients in the moisturizing lotion, which locks in moisture all day long. The moisture-rich body cream has hyaluronic acid, monkey bread oil and worsening seed butter to smooth the texture while plump and sunken.
My experience and results
Step 1: Exfoliate. I don't like body scrubs in the bathtub – I prefer tubes or pumps because I find it a less messy application process – but this process is very easy to use and dissolves easily in the shower. My perfume routine starts with a shower and I am pleasantly surprised by the smell of the body shrubs – it’s a feast of the senses. The warm amber scent fills the entire space, enhancing the entire experience as I gently massage the product onto my skin, focusing the extra time on the rough patches. The scrub acts magic without being too aggressive to my skin – I feel smooth almost immediately.
Then, I used a moisturizing shower gel. While it's not as foamy as I want it to be, it still makes my skin feel clean and moist without leaving oily film behind. I was very shocked by the softness, softness and plumpness of my skin later on – I've never experienced anything like that before.

When I got out of the shower, my skin was still moist and I worked in a moisturizing lotion. It is lightweight while still nourishing, spreading easily and absorbing quickly. There is some lotion sitting on the surface of your skin, evaporating after a few hours and leaving you gray-white and drying all day long – this is not one of them. The hydration lasted all day.
I usually prefer thick cream in winter, but to give it a try, I applied a rich moisture cream to the rough patches – elbows, knees and ankles. It's rich and buttery, not heavy. In fact, the formula sinks quickly and removes my dry spots without smoothing my skin.
The last step is body oil. While the consistency of the formula is a bit dripping, it is closely related to body lotion and cream, but feels like I don’t like to inflict trouble. (aka you won't make a mess on the floor.) It quickly absorbs and leaves a super subtle sheen. Also, it didn't stain my clothes after I slid them over.
Is the collection of patterned beauty body worth it?
Unlike some other body products, I don't have to wait for it to dry or absorb my skin forever. There is no greasy residue, no cheesy feeling, and no smoothness. Price and spacious prices make it affordable and lasting. Plus, the smell is great. If I have to choose a product I like, I have to say hydrating shower gel. Its oil-based formula and amber scent make each shower feel like a luxurious experience while leaving behind soft, hydrated and refreshing skin. All in all, I'll definitely say that the pattern's body deserves your attention.
