Investors are waiting for Fed Chairman Powell's speech

  • by admin

The U.S. Treasury yielded higher on Tuesday as investors awaited a speech by Fed Chairman Jerome Powell.

The fiscal yield in 10 years is less than 1 basis point, at 4.374%. The 2-year yield is 3.852%. The 30-year yield is 1 basis point, which is 4.947%.

One basis point equals 0.01%, and the yield and price move in the opposite direction.

Investors will monitor Powell's speech at an event in Washington Tuesday morning to get more clues about monetary policy.

President Donald Trump has been calling on central bank leaders to be removed from office for months, and the conflict remains concentrated among investors.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested on Monday that the Fed needs to be reviewed as an institution.

“What we need to do is check the entire Fed agency and whether they succeed,” Bessent said in an interview with CNBC's “Squawk Box.” “Did the organization successfully perform the mission? If that's [Federal Aviation Administration] We've had a lot of mistakes and we'll go back and see why this happens. ”

Bessent also questioned the Fed's decision not to lower interest rates this year, because the United States “have little to see inflation.”

“”I think that thinking is because they can’t get rid of a certain mentality,” Best said, referring to officials. “All of these PhDs are there and I don’t know what they are doing. ”

It's quiet in terms of economic data for the week, but investors will be watching for existing home sales data for Wednesday June, as well as weekly initial unemployment claims and new home sales for Thursday June. They will also wait for last month’s durable item order data.
