DSA “is not a political party, but it works exactly like a political party…and a quick read of the platforms of both will reveal some huge differences,” said Scott Graham, president of the fifth Congress DFL, whose platform became ours as its unofficial capacity.
“Democratic socialists in the United States want to return it to the police,” Graham said. “They want to disarm all law enforcement officers. They want to release all incarcerated people, legalize sex trade, drug trade, homelessness and squat. I can continue.
“These are some very good highs we find contrasting with the values of DFL.”
But he said the platform protecting us eventually pulled out the proposed rule change “because it became unusually divided”, contrary to the group’s intention to strengthen party unity.
The convention opened Saturday morning, with a speech by Minnesota DFL Chairman Richard Carlbom building the party based on national goals: by fixing the party’s brand (currently popular among 38% of Americans) and reminding voters that Democrats are Democrats are Democrats are working families, Social Security, Social Security, Medicare and Global Schools.
“We are by definition a coalition, Democratic Peasant Party,” Kalbom said. “Our party is made up of farmers and laborers. Our party is made up of progressives, environmentalists, feminists, democratic socialists” – sponsored by it – “gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender people.”
