About last week
Last week, the Bullfighters put a one-to-one 1-0 decision at the Grand Canyon and California Baptist Church in Matador Soccer Field.
GCU used the 55th minute goal to shoot down CSUN in its 2025 home opener on August 21. Senior Riley Liebsack made three saves in front of the net, while Senior Yoshi Rubalcava had four shots to lead the team. CSUN shot 6-4 in goals, but couldn't find an equalizer in the game.
The Bullfighters were 1-0 in the 15th minute when facing CBU this past Sunday. CSUN will make nine shot attempts at night, with three goals. Sophomore Jordyn Canister had three of his nine shots and liebsack was strong again, providing five saves to help Csun stay at a distance.
CSUN Defense Holding Company
The Bullfighter's defense has always been the highlight of early 2025. CSUN won its first elimination of the season on August 17, when the Bullfighters beat San Jose State 1-0. Overall, CSUN allowed four goals in three of these games with four goals or fewer. Senior goalkeeper Riley Liebsack is a big part of defensive success, earning 14 saves this season throughout the 360-minute game. On the Bullfighter's back, four players played for CSUN every minute, including junior Paige Califf, sophomore Sydney Lipkin, and newcomers Alex Valente and Siena Navarra.
Early goalscorer
Csun has seen three bullfighters have been online in 2025. Sophomore Jordyn Canister won his first goal of the season in the Bullfighters' 1-0 victory at San Jose State. Canister has already had three points this season, matching her 3-pointer record in 2024, while her team's highest shooting percentage of the year was 11. CSUN will also score two goals in a 2-2 draw at Saint Mary's season opening, while senior Cailey Jackson scored her sixth career goal while freshman Lia Peterson scored her first career. Peterson's goal will appear in dramatic ways, even in the 88th minute even to play and secure a draw.
Scout Utah Tech
The Trail Blazers were 1-2-1 this season after last week's 1-1 painting and 2-1 defeat at Boise State. The team's victory this season was a 2-0 victory over UC Riverside on August 17. Utah Tech's overall win was 5-7-5 in 2024, ranking sixth in the conference with a 2-4-1 record in the WAC. Prior to this season, the league's head coach was selected to be third in the WAC. Freshman Brooke Hendricks has scored two of the team's four goals so far in 2025. Lacy Fox was the team's highest goal scorer last season.

Toreros opened the 2025 season with three straight ties, all in the Big West game. Last week, the U.S. dollar played a scoring draw with UC Irvine before tying UC Santa Barbara to the 1-1 final. Last season, San Diego scored 3-11-5 and 1-7-2 overall in the WCC. After USD ranked ninth in the WCC last season, the WCC head coach expects Toreros to rank tenth in the league.
