The world's top tennis players competed in the 2025 U.S. Open this week on the Flushing Meadow in Queens. The Grand Slam Tennis Championship will last until September 8, and athletes compete for a record $5 million in prize money if they win. Both men’s and women’s singles champions will charge $5 million in spending, by far the largest professional tennis prize.

This year's tournament also marks the debut of Wilson Sports Goods' new tennis racket, which has been the first choice for some of the world's best athletes. Players like Australian star Alex de Minaur, Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, Chinese Qinwen Zheng and Greek athlete Maria Sakkari were all in court on Wilson’s new Ultra V5 racket released last month.

The flagship model in the Ultra range is the Ultra 99 Pro V5, which has been in public due to its gloss, electric blue and black color scheme. But it doesn't just look like – Wilson said it uses “direct feedback” from tennis players to design a new racket that promises better strength, consistency and control. This is thanks to Wilson's “SI3D Framework Technology”, which is said to provide improved stability for more precise lenses, while Ultra's open 16×18 string mode offers more “forgiveness and extra spin”. Meanwhile, Wilson's thin bundle structure is often provided by players with better “feeling” and flexibility.

Rackets also build sustainability. The racket bumper, grommet and end cap are all made of plant-based materials, Wilson said.

No. 27 Kostyuk and No. 8 De Minaur have previously competed with Wilson's 98 rackets before switching to Ultra this summer, just in time for the U.S. Open. Wilson does offer a special open version of the American Blade 98 V9 racket on its website, New York-style black and graphite color scheme and the American head interior is an American open brand.

In addition to the above framework, Wilson has also launched a special version of the racket, among which the current women's world number one, Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian star will use a custom blade V9 racket that features a flame-inspired design that “directs her passion and strength to every swing.” The limited edition racket, known as the “fighter,” is available on Wilson.com for $279.
