Brandon Nakashima competed against Jerome Kym in the second round of the 2025 U.S. Open in Flushing, Queens this morning.
Currently ranked 31st Nakashima has a critical test of his toughness and ability to improve his game under pressure after an epic five-set start victory over Jesper de Jong.
However, the 24-year-old American's first-round difficulties have caused him to see if he meets or beats him in the Open 2024 performance, reaching 16 rounds in 16 rounds after beating Lorenzo Musetti in four sets.
This time, if Nakajima passes the second round obstacle, he will face Lloyd Harris Taylor Fritz's championship in the third round. He had beaten Fritz before. So, it's possible – but he needs a cleaner game today.
The 6'6-inch Kym is ranked 179th and is currently in the qualifiers. The 21-year-old Swiss showed determination – surviving three rounds of qualifying before winning the first round of Ethan Quinn. This is his first game in the Grand Slam main draw. Therefore, nerves may be a factor, but he has enough skills to eliminate depression.
Nakajima – opposite Kem
This is their first professional meeting.
prophecy
4 sets of Nakajima. The American's first-round performance shows that he may test Kym again today, and Kym's ability does not exactly match his record. I hope Kym will push Nakashima as soon as possible and may even participate in the competition, but no more than one set.
