Authorities and media reported that Baltimore comedian Reginald “Reggie” Carroll died after being shot dead in northern Mississippi.

The artist, 52, among those who pay tribute to him, is Oscar-winning actor Mo'nique, who calls Carroll the “brother” in the comedy.

Police in southern Mississippi said police found severely injured Carroll during the August 20 shooting in Burton Lane. Carroll died of injuries despite receiving emergency treatment at a hospital near Memphis, Tennessee.

Southwind police said a man was arrested for Carol's murder and sentenced to jail for one count of murder. Memphis News WMC reported that police later identified the arrested suspect as 38-year-old Tranelle Marquez Williams.

As of Monday morning, investigators have not discussed the killing motives of the single comic, although they say it is “isolated.”

Memphis News FOX13 reported on Monday that a Burton Lane-based company was expelled from its rental address after the shooting as the official website of comedian Micah “Katt” Williams' merchandise. A letter left at the company's address and wrote to several residents, including Tranell Williams – citing “crime activities that occur on or around the house that violates the house” [its] Lease Agreement”.

FOX13 said the letter continued to mention the shooting and the arrests of Sananwen police.

Media reports say Carroll and Katt Williams are companion comics and have recently toured together.

Carroll gained a follower while performing at comedy clubs across the United States, and his death killed that tour.

“Thank you for being one of our OGSs,” Baltimore's Mobtown Comedy said on social media. “The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very sad about losing one of our city's great talents. Pray to Reggie's family.”

On Instagram, Mo'nique – from the Baltimore area and won the 2010 Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performances in a prized show – she said she had had a great time with Carroll before.

“That's why I always say the best treatment because you never know if you have a chance to see them again,” Monique said. “That's my brother Reggie, girl, that's the truth – it's so good to tour together, walk that road together, it's been a while, so I don't have sad tears because all our time together was great.”

Carroll's honors on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) is an episode of Parkers, a sitcom starring Mo'nique. As Deadline points out, he also appeared on Apollo's live variety show Showtime – recently, he competed in the 2023 Commy of Comedy and the 2022 TV movie Rent & Go.

Southaven police also expressed condolences to Carroll's loved ones and said in a statement: “Our thoughts [are] and [his] family. ”

The agency's statement also thanks the public for “patience and understanding” as the investigation into the Carroll murder case was investigated.
