“He did it himself,” said manager Alex Cora. ”That's what he needed to do at the time.”
If it weren't for his $140 million contract, the story might have come on the bench. But Sox is with him. At the time, the shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer replaced an injured Alex Bregman, playing third base at the time.
Calling it a faith or lacking a better option, but Sox paid off.
The story of the Yankees 12-1 home run, three-pointers, doubles and three RBIs was 3-5.
Get the starting point
It's the latest step in a surge, with a .856 OPS and 59 games since June 1st, reaching .297.
“It's so fun to watch,” said teammate Rob Refsnyder. “Everyone here loves Trevor.”
In the third inning, the story doubled twice on Saturday with two runs. He got a home run in the fifth inning, then singled and scored in the ninth in seven innings, with the Yankees booing loudly.
At 71-59, Sox held its first playoff spot since 2021. Their shortstop is one of the leading players.
Saturday's home run, Will Warren's right shot, gave the 20-year-old story of this season. Combining many attempts, plus 22 stolen bases, this is his first 20-20 season with the Rockies since 2021.
The story is the first Red Sox shortstop in the 20-20 season since Nomar Garciaparra in 1997. The closest Xander Bogaerts to 2016 were 21 home runs and 13 steals.
“Just the illusionist, man,” said Garrett Crochet, who allowed a win in seven innings. “The huge leader of the clubhouse; the huge existence in the box.”
The story took place for Colorado in 2018 for the 25-25 season. That's also the scope. After all the Red Sox's first three seasons ruined, this kind of plateau seems impossible.
“He was amazing for us on the offense. It was a big time,” Bregman said. “We just need him to be ourselves.”
Over the past few years, the story has gone through too much to sit down and reflect.
“It’s cool, but there’s still a lot of work to do,” he said. “For me, playing baseball means a lot to me with these guys, this team and the way we do it. It’s the most important thing.”
The story has only 163 out of 486 games in 2022-24. It took his body a while to get used to the grinding of the baseball season.
“A lot of work,” Cora said, noting that the story had to take time to regain his skills and stamina on the court and on the court.
“A little bit of relearning how to play every day, and the adjustments that come with it both physically and mentally,” the story says. “Just being able to relax and trust yourself and know that you don't have to be perfect there.
“You can go there and enjoy and play games as I always do. I think it's just time and representation.”
Both Cora and Bregman joke that the baseball god rewarded the story for the game against the winemaker.
Maybe that's the case. They owe him one, too.
