August full moon 2025 attracts st fish moon illuminating the sky (photo), attracting Skywatchers all over the world

August's full moon, known as the “st-fish moon”, caused a sensation when it crossed above the southern horizon earlier this week on August 9, illuminating the days of the peak of the Perseid Meteor shower.

The stfish moon is named after the once abundant Great Lakes fish around this time of the year, an important food source for several Native American tribes. It is sometimes called the “Red Moon” because it is well known in the summer Haze that the people of Anishinaabe in the Great Lakes call it “Ricing Moon” and use this as a sign that it is time to bring the harvest.

Each The full moon is a spectacular sight for the naked eye and a precious target for astronomers around the world, who bent over the majestic mission of capturing the lunar disk of the bright spots of August.

Some photographers aimed the camera at the moon during the moon, capturing its dramatic yellow-orange rays as the Earth's atmosphere spreads the blue wavelengths of sunlight in a process called Rayleigh scattering. On the evening of August 9, Nazley Zeynep Karabulut hung a spectacular view of the entire st-fish moon among New York’s iconic skyscrapers as the moon disk rose to New York and was temporarily abandoned at the location of the Empire State Building.

That night (August 9) (August 9), Ismael Adnan Yaqoob captured the moon thousands of miles from New York, near the lights of the amusement park in the city of Mosul, Iraq.

Tayfun Coskun captured this amazing detailed lunar disk high contrast on August 9 as the moon hangs on Mount Hamilton in San Jose, California. The dark moon can be seen in the range of mountains across the cross-section and prominent impact locations, including majestic forms, including The Tycho Crater, dominating the lower area of the moon's disk.

On August 9, photographer Costas Baltas captured an image of a yellow full moon rising near the Poseidon Temple in southern Greece, near the city of Athens.

The spotlight shining at the tip of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France seems to have selected the orange form of the rising stfish moon in this dramatic composition by Mustafa Yalcin, which was also taken on August 9.

Faisal Bashir took amazing detailed footage of the moon disk before the full moon phase on August 8 and consisted of subtle silhouettes of overhanging leaves.

Photographer Max Guliani also released an impressive series of Moonrise shots to his X account, showing the complete moon disks looming between the iconic skyscrapers in Midtown Manhattan.

Meanwhile, Gary Hershorn lined up for a long shot that radiated a full moon next to the Statue of Liberty, including an appropriate composition that captured a passenger jet that crossed the moon disk.

There is no doubt that the August st-fish moon has a dramatic performance, but the full moon phase will be even more spectacular next month. From September 7 to 8, a lunar eclipse will be swept across the surface of Earth's natural satellites, temporarily transforming it into a red “blood moon” of Skywatchers in Asia, Australia, Europe, Europe and Africa.
