  • 5G replacement will take a lot of time, Tempenat's CTO infrastructure explains

Ahoy Matey! Take over Gao Hai for Nokia 5G.

Anders Tysdal, chief technology officer of offshore private wireless operator Tampnet, told Five via email that the company will replace Ericsson and Huawei 4G radios on Nokia 5G radios after suppliers win 5G RFP. Considering that Tampnet's network spans over 120 active base stations, SNS Telecon & IT COUTS, this is a huge win for Nokia, which spans over 120 active base stations, which span over 350 oil and gas platforms, FPSOS (floating production storage and unloading units), SNS TELECON & IT CONTIST.

Analyst company Dell'oro said Huawei, Nokia and Ericsson are the top three private campaign suppliers in the world. Nokia is the most important Western player on the market, and this new victory strengthens supplier momentum in this field.

Tysal explained that upgrading to 5G radios will take some time, although Tampnet has initially started deploying 5G for Aker BP on the Edvard Grieg platform off the Norwegian coast. “We will take some time to do this due to the difficulty and limited access to offshore sites. We follow the plan and perform according to the requirements of our customers, capacity, regulators and products,” said the CTO.

Tysdal noted that Tampnet was the first maritime operator of Offshore 4G in 2013. Progress in the future, he said all new deployments will be 5G.

In addition to Nokia's 5G radio, the CTO also said Tampnet will use HPE as the core of its private network. “We also created a second core supplier for our private products,” Tysdal added.

In addition to its private network products, Tampnet operates macro public networks – mainly in the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. For these public network cores, the company is using Mavenir products.

“Any ocean user can connect to our network directly or through our roaming partners,” Tysdal explained. “For example, we provide FirstNet coverage through a partnership with AT&T in the United States.”

So, enjoy the summer fun and make the waves of 5G – Finally – Hit you.
