Uncasville of Connecticut – Sabrina Ionescu scored 36 points, Emma Meesseman returned to the WNBA 11 points, and the New York Liberty Women won a four-game losing streak on Sunday, 87-78.
Jonquel Jones added 21 points and nine rebounds to Freedom (18-10), and they did not have All-Star Breanna Stewart for their fourth game due to a knee injury.
Tina Charles had 17 points and eight rebounds, and Anneesah Moorow had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Suns (5-22), who handed the worst loss of the season to Freedom on Friday 78-62. Bria Hartley added 12 points, Marina Mabrey 10.
Meesseman, a former finals MVP, played in the league last time in 2022 and then won the UEFA Women's MVP in the past three seasons, causing all the damage in the second half. Ionescu scored 10 rebounds in her first doubles this season because she scored almost the same career best. She also had more than 1,000 assists, the third place to reach that milestone.
Ionescu scored 16 points in New York's first 20 points, and the Liberty women scored a 25-19 lead in the last nine points in the first quarter, and they never gave up. She has a 20-plus lead with Jones 13 in half of the game.
Meesseman started the third quarter with two free throws and scored 7 on a 9-2 surge, which put the Liberty in the first double-leading of the day, leading 54-43. New York led 66-57 to the fourth quarter.
