When Austin Butler was young, he looked forward to the day when he could wear perfume.
“I remember this obsession,” he recalls. “My dad was wearing Cologne, my mom had her perfume and there was a feeling, ‘I grew up, I could wear these smells,’” he told people exactly.
Today, the 33-year-old actor is not only wearing perfume, but also being the global ambassador for YSL Beauty. In the role, he ran a themed campaign for the brand’s Myslf eau de Parfum, which launched the brand’s first wood-green scent in 2023, as well as the Myslf Le Parfum campaign, which was described in the version as “a “stronger, more sensual version” of MySLF EDP).
He teamed up again with YSL Beauty for the debut of Myslf Absolu, another wood-green Cologne whose ginger hits are unique.

The new scent is blooming with bergamot, ginger and cardamom, blooms in orange and rooted with warm woods and wide patch fragrance- evokes a full circle moment for Butler.
“To pick out the smell of cardamom, the smell of bergamot, the smell of orange blossom. When I said that, I remembered my parents' fragrances – my dad was pepper and Woody, and my mom's flowers were sweet, she would wear clothes she would wear – and how they got together.”
New members of the MYSLF series also connect Butler more deeply this Yves Saint Laurent founded the fashion house of the same name in 1961 and launched his first perfume three years later.
“We were just talking about where Marrakech had this house in him, surrounded by all these orange trees that smelled like orange blossoms. When I was born, I was taken home to the house and then I lived until I was 12 years old and had an orange tree in the backyard.

When Butler warmed up to Absolu, he found it to be “night, and there are benefits when you're going out. But at the same time, the morning can be beautiful, too.” He thinks he likens it to having pancakes in the morning or at night, both experiences are “good.”
His tip: wear it and see how it evolves on your skin. He sprayed it on his wrist and neck, a ritual symbolizing the addition of “accessories”.

Just as perfume helped Butler “understand” the character’s personality and world, he used it as a tool to make himself feel himself again.
“Having things around the world, such as smells, so no matter which hotel room you are in, no matter which country you are in, you can feel like family and rooting through this vocation.”
“I think with the number of travels – when making movies, like you’re in a travel circus, I just did something in Chicago and now I’m here [in New York City] – I learned that melting these through lines helps my mind and soul because over time you may feel uneasy from your home. ”
In addition to Cologne, Butler also packed his schoolbag. “It’s delicious,” he said of the smell. He shared: “When I came home from the whole movie I just shot, I illuminated it every night and I brought it to light it up here. So from the last job to the me here in New York, it was kind of like that.”

Butler summed up his modification plan with one word: simplicity.
He admitted: “I'm proud of myself washing my face lately. I haven't had a long time. [use] A little bit of washing my face, so I will do it, with a little moisturizing cream on my face. That's my favorite self-care behavior. ”
His health routine is more intentional. “I try to spend a little time in silence every day without the phone, especially the first thing I did before I was flooded by the outside world from the outside world, to actually check in. Where am I today? I find this to feel good for the soul.”

Another important approach: have an appreciation attitude.
“Grateful, I've talked about a few. My mom used to keep a diary of gratitude, and I've been doing it all the time. I wrote these diaries in the morning and then I found out for the rest of the day that my brain was almost watching things and then leaving, 'It's a beautiful thing. It's my gratitude, I'm always there for them, but you've been there, and that's the environment we're browsing the world in this world.

Butler said it felt “came by chance” to work with YSL Beauty and appear in its MYSLF campaign, rooted in bold self-expression.
“I’m really honored,” he recalled the phone call he initially worked with the brand. “At one particular moment, I saw all these quotes about Yves Saint Laurent talking about personality and being true to himself. So it happened to be accidental: I kept seeing people about creating this tradition and then getting a call and then being part of it.”
