Tigers' Matt Manning: Falling from 40-man roster

  • by admin

Evan Petzold, of Detroit Freedom Report, designated Manning for the mission Thursday.

There was once a sign of the organization’s start selling prospects, and Manning has struggled to stay healthy for each of the past three seasons, unable to establish himself as a permanent part of the major league rotation. Although Manning managed to create a 3.74 ERA in 168.2 innings in the 2022-2024 Grand Slam, the Tigers were elected to move him to the bullpen earlier this season as he failed to win the Detroit Opening Day roster. While Manning is able to stay healthy in Triple-A Toledo in 2025, his stuff isn't playing in the bullpen as the Tigers hoped. He hasn't received a call this season, while playing 6.04 ERA with Toledo in 50.2 innings, 1.63 Whip and 52:37 K:BB:BB, and the Tigers now choose to move him out of the 40-man roster to open up for the trade-selling leading pickup (Paul Paul Sewald). Given his pedigree, the 27-year-old Manning can attract interest with waivers, but he doesn't look particularly close to becoming the impact department of a Grand Slam event.
