Exercise seriously
The Indiana Boom has won two straight wins after beating the Las Vegas Ace and Chicago Sky, but fever will have a major test on Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday without All-Star guard Caitlin Clark.
Clark was excluded from Wednesday's game against Mercury, marking her fifth game missed by suffering a right groin injury in a fever-beating Connecticut Suns on July 15. Clark's medical evaluation confirmed that “no other injuries or damages,” but fever said they would be cautious with Clark to ensure Clark's competitiveness to ensure Clark's playoffs, the season she prepares for.
She has no timeline for returning. Here is all you need to know about Clark’s damage status:
Is Caitlin Clark playing today? The damage state of fever
no. Clark was ruled out in a hot showdown against Mercury due to a right groin injury.
How many games did Caitlin Clark missed this season?
The injured bug is Clark’s biggest enemy of the season, forcing her to miss 13 of the craze’s 26 games in her sophomore campaign, the highest of Clark’s career. Without the 2024 Rookie of the Year, Fever (14-12) scored 6-7 this season, but ranked sixth in the standings.
Wednesday will mark Clark's 14th game of the season due to injury. Clark has previously been missed five games with a left four abdomen injury and four left groin injuries. In addition to the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game and a 3-point match in Indianapolis, she also missed the Fever's Commissioner Cup victory over Minnesota Lynx.
How did Caitlin Clark get injured?
Clark suffered a right groin injury in the last minute of defeating the Suns 85-77 at TD Gardens in Boston on July 15. With 39.1 seconds left in the game, Clark bounced through Kelsey Mitchell and beat the fever 84-75. As Clark walked carefully to a structure, he immediately grabbed her right groin and grimaced her face as she hit her. She didn't return to the game.
The injury occurred a few days before the fever will be held in Indianapolis for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend. Clark was selected as a captain and drafted her own team, but she eventually quit the All-Star Game and 3-pointer due to injury and said, “I have to rest my body.”
When will Caitlin Clark play again?
It is not clear when Clark will return, but fever head coach Stephanie White said the WNBA's strict schedule didn't help.
“I always thought the WNBA season was like this sprint marathon,” White said on Sunday. “You see more injuries when you don't have a chance to recover, but that's not to say that a single team is the only team to deal with. It's a collective issue across the league. The NBA has a similar rhythm, but they have 30 teams, but there's not much span time zone and span time across the country. So, it's a challenge in our footsteps planning.
The fever will take four road trips Friday and will travel to Dallas (August 3), Los Angeles (August 5) and Phoenix (August 7) within a week.
