New York (WABC) – Due to the loss of power in the signal system on West 4th Street, the subway system has severe delays and cancellations on the subway system.
The MTA said it happened before 8:30 a.m. and they are investigating whether it is related to heat.
Officials say low power affects the signal system, and the signal turns red or stops, preventing the train from proceeding.
Staff are still resetting the signal.
Witness News was told it appeared to be a broken man, but staff are still investigating what ended up causing the serious delay.
For most riders, the biggest impact is the A/B/C/D/E/F/M train route.
Transit officials are supervising the recovery work, but so far it has been a chaotic commute.
New York City Transportation President Demetrius Crichlow said that although the signal does not have power, the train still has power, so passengers on delayed trains do have air conditioning.
“We were able to reset a circuit breaker in the area, so the service is now starting to recover,” Crichlow said. “The team is on the track. You can see a lot of activities here. The team is resetting the signal here so that they can move and run in the afternoon.”
By 2pm Tuesday, MTA said there was still serious delays on the D line and delays on the A/C/E/B/F/M line.
