Major League Baseball trade deadlines will be passed at 6 p.m. on July 31, giving the team only more than two days to complete summer shopping. Some clubs are already active swapers: the Yankees have already won two infielders (Ryan McMahon and Amed Rosario), while the Mariners have grabbed Josh Naylor to secure the first base. Who will be the next player to pack the packaging into a new home? Below, CBS Sports gathered the most famous news on Tuesday and held the action in a convenient place.
Did the Astros stop playing?
According to track and field, Padres All-Star starter Dylan Scease is “at the top of the Astros’ wishlist.” And, as long as they can improve their main league roster, Padres will stop at the end of the season – free agents. Then, the question is whether the Astronauts have enough offensive depth to reach an agreement with MLB caliber talent, Padres will pay in exchange for a stop.
The Padre can use the big bat in DH and may not only want one player to stop.
The Astronauts have suffered a string of spin damage, including Lance McCullers Jr. They expect to earn several of them in the coming weeks, but the prospect of stopping with Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez may be enough to bite people here.
Bluebird Adds Arms
The Blue Jays have acquired cash from right-handed rescuers Seranthony Domínguez and Orioles in exchange for prospects Juaron Watts-Brown, the team announced Tuesday.
Domínguez, 30, is an upcoming free agent who compiled strikeout ratios of 3.24 ERA (122 ERA+) and 2.25 innings so far this season.
Watts-Brown, 23, is a third-round draft pick in 2023. He scored a 3.54 ERA between high and double A and distributed with a strikeout ratio of 3.03 in 19 starts.
According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, the Blue Jays remain interested in Ryan Helsley's cardinal, suggesting that Domínguez may be the first bullpen this week, but not the last time they joined.
Yankees, Dodges, Philadelphia close-up
Ryan Helsley said last week that he expected to trade before the deadline. If that turns out to be the case, expect him to get on a heavy batsman. Among the teams showing interest are Yankees, Metropolis, Dodgers, Phillies, Rangers and Blue Jays, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
“This time it’s a little different.” Hullsley said recently. “Probably as likely as I’m trading,” he added. “I would say it’s 90%, and I’m leaving 10%.
The upcoming free agent Helsley has a 3.00 ERA and a 2.93 strikeout to walk ratio in 36 innings so far.
According to the New York Post, this is a telling whether and the Rays’ sales deadline, but both the Metropolitan and the Astronauts showed interest in second baseman Brandon Lowe.
Lowe, 31, is currently injured due to foot/ankle tendonitis, although he is expected to return on Wednesday. In 86 games this season, he hit .269/.320/.480 (121 OPS+). According to baseball reference, his contribution is estimated to be worth more than the replacement 1.2 wins.
Lowe can technically control the next season due to club choices in the contract. Perhaps it's worth noting that despite playing in the outfield in the past, he's almost entirely stationed in Keystone over the past few seasons.
Dodgers manager says rush will not be traded
Although Dodgers rookie Backstop Dalton Rushing recently showed his name in trade rumors, manager Dave Roberts said Monday that he would not foresee a deal.
“I didn't talk to Dalton,” Roberts told the Orange County Register. “I just couldn't see the world where he moved, and I think he was smart enough to realize that.”
Rushing, 24, entered the CBS Sports ranking season and became No. 22 in the sport. He made his debut on May 15, and despite his seldom in the competition, he made only 29 appearances and released a .545 OPS in his role as a backup for Will Smith.
However, the Dodgers don't seem to be inclined to trade runs – at least not if they want to trust their manager.
Dodge, Bluebird's interest in level
According to Athletics, how much impact was the guardian’s deadline plan when Emmanuel Clase was placed on paid leave, while Major League Baseball (MLB) investigated potential gambling misconduct, but both the Dodgers and the Blue Jays were interested in outfielder Steven Kwan.
At the age of 27, there have been 9 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 100 games so far, which has reached .287/.351/.411 (111 OPS+). According to baseball reference, his contribution deserves 3.3 wins over the replacement. In the 2027 season, the quit has been technically in team control, which means the guardian doesn't necessarily have to move him.
Instead, the guardian can stick with the cut and try to make it to the playoffs by himself. They are four games in a position, but they will benefit from one of the weakest timelines left in the profession.
According to track and field, the winemaker calculates the winemaker against Oriole first baseman/outfielder Ryan O'Hearn. The winemaker is also the club Josh Naylor had tried before being sent to Seattle.
O'Hearn, 32, is one of the best bats left on the trade market. He hit .284/.375/.452 (134 OPS+) with 12 home runs in 92 games so far. During his time with the Orioles, he was largely used as a platoon role, which helped explain how he lowered his strikeout rate and switched from a seemingly quarter slugger to a legitimate platoon ace, all after aging from his speculated statistical primes.
O'Hearn is an upcoming free agent.
