Nolan Arenado trade interests approach near the 2025 trade deadline

Two factors contributed to Eugenio Suárez's popularity in the trade market: his impressive performance over the past 12 months and more importantly, the need for help at third bases in many controversial clubs.

The Yankees leaped up the market with Ryan McMahon's trade, but Suárez remains the crown jewel of the industry's deadline, Bears, Sailors, Tigers, Winemakers, Reds, Astronauts, Astronauts and Phillies are all interested in slugger.

But another third baseman could fill one of the holes, as sources said, Nolan Arenado, who is the center of multiple trade talks, could move by the 6pm ET deadline on Thursday.

The Cardinal will have to obtain approval from Arenado, who has a complete no-trade clause and can veto any deals – he did it in December after the Cardinal and Astros agreed to make the deal to send eight All-Stars to Houston.

Although they need third basemen after Isaac Paredes' recent injury, sources say the Astronauts don't seem to be inclined to bid again. The Yankees have filled their hot vacancy and canceled another potential suitor, but sources say some other clubs pursuing Suarez may pivot if they missed Arizona’s slugger.

Arenado has two years left on his contract after the season and the remaining $42 million will be earned $27 million in 2026 and $15 million in 2027. Next season's salary includes $6 million in deferred deferral currency, plus $5 million, the Rockies will be paid as part of the 2021 trade, which will send him to St. Louis. The Cardinal may have to pay Arenado’s contract to relocate him, but St. Louis’s desire to open up positions for some young infielders may prompt them to do so.

After starting the season in a strong way (with .814 OPS in his first 25 games), Arenado's year is a roller coaster. He looked like he turned everything around in June, releasing .801 OPS in the first 20 games of the month. Since then Arenado has scored 0.476 action in 20 games before Sunday. Overall, he has 10 home runs, 43 RBIs and .669 OPS in 93 games this season.

The 34-year-old remains an elite defender at third base, ranking above average in four innings in the 89th percentile. Whether the Star Defense and a slightly below-average offense (88 OPS+) is enough to get the club to commit to playing for the Arenado for more than two years, remains to be seen, but certainly is working.

What's next for the Rockies?

Each player also maintained four years of control, with multiple teams already linked to All-Star receiver Hunter Goodman and midfield goalkeeper Brenton Doyle, sources said the Rockies trade was extremely unlikely.

The best asset in Colorado may be the best asset for moving, as various buyers are interested in Seth Halwazon, Victor Wardnick and Jack Bird. It is rumored that there is no other controlled rescuer's name value, such as Emmanuel Clase, Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax, but each offers many tools to induce reconnaissance.

“I don't know if Colorado will trade any or all, but they can all help the team and the future,” said one Al Scout. “Halvorsen and Vodnik have electric arms.”

Two left-handers (Kyle Freeland and Austin Gomber) also played on radar on some teams, although both teams performed well. Freeland owed about $5 million for the rest of 2025 and the next season, while Gomber owed about $2 million this year before becoming a free agent.

Freeland didn't hit a lot of batsmen, but he didn't go a lot either. His numbers away from Coors Stadium this season (4.68 ERA on the Road) are better than Colorado's game, which has a 5.98 ERA. Move Freeland – Five mass starts in the last eight outings – Denver could make him a mid-range spinner elsewhere.

Gomber's home/highway split was even more intense, with the 3.86 ERA starting with the 7.52 points in Colorado. The 31-year-old couldn’t handle shoulder soreness until June 15, but most teams view him as the fifth starter, so any reward could be minimal.

Another opportunity for Chicago this week is another opportunity for Chicago to strengthen its system with young talent, and as sources say White Sox has at least four players, Luis Robert Jr.

Luis Robert Jr. has produced the most trade buzz in the past few years, with his recent hot streak – he has five home runs, 17 RBIs, five stolen bases and .856 OPS entering Sunday – his trade value helps to boost his trade value in ideal times. Even in the year, Robert's Bat Speed is elite (93%), and his overall speed and defense in the midfield are still great.

In addition to Robert, midfield options include Cedric Mullins of Baltimore (as of April 29, from April 29) and Harrison Bader of Minnesota, but Robert has the best of the group.

Houser has been in excellent form since joining the White Sox in mid-May, 6-2 in 11 games with a 2.10 ERA 6-2. Chicago may get one or two out of the club's 30 upfront prospects, namely Houser's expiration contract, while Relievers Booser and Wilson are a ton of bullpen weapons this week.
