Harford County launches new emergency alert system

  • by admin

Halford County has launched a new and improved emergency notification system designed to provide faster and more reliable alerts to its residents, officials announced Thursday.

The new system, known as HarfordComd Alerts, will provide real-time notifications for a range of critical events, including serious weather warnings, infrastructure disruptions, major traffic disruptions, evacuation, residence orders, major or localized crimes and missing persons.

Residents also have the option to receive non-emergency alerts covering public events, fire hydrant flush schedules and street cleaning notices.

Although individuals who have registered with the county’s former system (Blackboard Connect) are automatically transferred, officials are encouraged to create new registrations. This can be done by texting “HarfordComd” to 410-457-3655 or clicking here. Registration is free, fast, multiple registrations of the same email or phone number will not result in duplicate messages. The system also allows registration on behalf of family members or other people.

“Public safety is a top priority for my administration, and this new system will enhance our ability to protect ourselves and our loved ones in time and with accurate information in the event of disaster strikes,” said Bob Cassilly, executive officer of Harford County. “I encourage everyone to register and stay safe in HarfordComd alerts.”
