Gary Seacrest turned 81 in late July 2025 and was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
According to Ryan Seacrest, his father lost most of his power after battling the frightening pneumonia. But the 50-year-old revealed that there are now signs of hope for his father to recover.

During the show, Ryan shared that he had a very “close relationship” with his father, Gary, and so it has been difficult for him and his family to see him fight prostate cancer.
The TV celebrity then opened up about getting crazy calls from his sister while recording the episode “American Idol”, urging him to fly to Atlanta as soon as possible after his father was hospitalized for pneumonia.
He said: “I’m almost done.
After landing in Georgia, Ryan recalls his father being in a very vulnerable state.
He shared: “…I have never seen my strong, very smart father, his expression and his face and focus and looked at me to help guide the decisions that should be made at this moment. This is the ICU. Pneumonia is done with pneumonia after chemotherapy, and cancer after chemotherapy.”

Elsewhere, Ryan shared on the radio show that after his father was cured of pneumonia, he asked for one thing to celebrate his upcoming birthday: leaving home.
“So last night I got the most powerful…the most powerful, best, happy pictures of my father and mother. They were with him. They went to a beach and sat outside. They just wanted to see the water. They couldn't do much.”
“So, anyway, I watched them send pictures of smiles, happiness and together on the weekend – they've been married for 55 years. They've been married to each other. They've disappeared from each other, but his cancer hasn't, but his cancer hasn't, so we have to go back to another treatment and fight this cancer. And, it's hard, it's hard.

“I know he's going to fix that,” Ryan said. “You know, we're worried about flying and everything, and he's going to have to absorb oxygen on the plane.”
He added: “Thank God, he did it.

Ryan’s emotional revelation has had a profound impact on many of his audiences, and his social media pages flooded his social media pages for him and his family.
