Emma Meesseman, the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP and has not been in the league since 2022, pledging to join defending champion New York Liberty, sources told ESPN on Monday.
Sources say Meesseman's arrival in New York will take the time required to go through the visa application process.
The Belgian 6-foot-4 striker has been a huge difference for her when playing in the league. The two WNBA All-Star games averaged 12.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game in 2022.
Prior to that, she played for seven seasons with the Washington Mystics, where she helped them win the 2019 championship and in the process won the final MVP.
Sources told ESPN.
Her decorated international resume includes two nods from five Olympic All-Star teams (in Tokyo and Paris), two European Shoe MVP honors and three consecutive Eurolague MVP bids.
Meesseman's promise that the rich have become richer as freely seeks to become the fourth WNBA series (and the second in the last 20 years) to repeat as champions. Freedom already has some of the top WNBA players at Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones, who are expected to return this week with an ankle injury, which has left her far apart for most of the season.
