For each source, the school spent over a week on the background on Retzlaff, which included the veterinarian with the IX Champions Office, The Transper. He is expected to enroll soon, with each source, and compete for a starting job in the training camp in the next few weeks.
After the BYU program violated the school's code of honors and Retzlaff left BYU, he officially withdrew from the school on July 11.

BYU suspended a lawsuit in May of this year and was accused of raping a woman in a 2023 lawsuit. Retzlaff denied “every charge” in his response and was never legally charged.
The lawsuit was finally dismissed on June 30, and the parties jointly agreed to be liable for prejudice. Retzlaff's response included acceptance of premarital sex, which violated the BYU code of honors, which led to a suspension of BYU.
With Tulane scrutinizing the situation, Retzlaff will arrive at Tulane with coach Jon Sumrall. While coaching at Troy, Sumrall recruited Retzlaff. Although Retzlaff eventually chose BYU before the 2023 season, there was a year-long relationship between the two, which included an official visit to Troy. (He just got his degree.) Instead, he quits the school and plans to enroll in Tulane, technically, according to sources, he will move on.
The timing of the suspension in late June and subsequent transfers resulted in several schools requiring quarterbacks, as beginner caliber quarterbacks rarely made transfers after spring practice. Because it was Retzlaff’s fifth and final season of college football, he was unable to wear a red shirt this year and moved in more traditional windows.
Last season, Retzlaff became BYU's starter 11-2, throwing 2,947 yards and 20 touchdowns. He completed 57.9% of his passes and made 12 interceptions, making himself a productive big 12 quarterback for a strong BYU team.
He spent two seasons in junior college before moving to BYU in 2023, starting with the final four games of the season while maintaining his red shirt of the year. He took over as a full-time starter in 2024 and is ready to move him from Provo in 2025 until off-court issues move him.
Sources said Duran’s staff made it clear that he had no guarantee he could start and that he needed to win the job. Retzlaff each source has selected job seekers, with both Level 6 Group 4 and Level 6 Groups.
He will be ambiguity after Tulane enters quarterback situation, after being arrested this spring and subsequently transferred the talented TJ Finley.
