While Robinson may seem to have a bigger impact than Moore, both deals will affect the immediate future of the two of the 49ers’ 2025 draft picks.
Fourth-round rookie Jordan James was behind in his preparations for the new season after suffering a broken finger to get him out of pre-season preparations.
James is predicted to be someone who might immediately produce in spelling Christian McCaffrey and keeping running on time, even if he lacks the explosiveness of 2024 draft pick Isaac Guerendo.
But with Robinson in the frame, James may expect not to surpass the fourth string in his rookie season.
There are positive and negative factors in this position. James' chances of developing rapidly through routine snapshots are clearly reduced, but if McCaffrey is injured, at least 49 people won't put pressure on one place to strengthen James to fill the gap.
However, for junior Bergen, a seventh-round pick, Moore's trade could have more serious consequences.
San Francisco drafted Bergen, who had eight punt return touchdowns at a college in Montana, hoping he could change their return game.
But, besides the Broncos’ preseason opener, the 49ers saw Bergen’s flashes in the special team or the touch he got in the offense.
Moore has only 494 catch yards in his NFL career, but he has experience returning to the game and reminds him of his recent upside in the area when he played 88 yards against the Seattle Seahawks in the Chiefs season opener.
Given the 49ers deal with the capital draft to get Moore, he appears to be in the initial 53 season. Assuming that the damage to Jauan Jennings and Jacob Cowing was not serious enough to get them out of 53, then Moore's arrival would greatly reduce the chance of Bergen's team.
The 49ers return game has long lacked vitality. Bergen may be the one who provides it, but the level of damage the 49ers suffers over a wide range of games means the need to gain experience to replace the special team advantages that Bergen may bring.
James should retain his position on the team, but the 49ers' offensive injury level has cost Bergen's job in recent weeks.
